ExclaimTM Overview

About Us

Since its inception, Exclaim has been at the forefront of the digital camera and cellular phone revolutions. Founded in 1999 by Glenn Paul, Joe Godcharles and Bill Sheehy as PhotosByNet, the first incarnation was a simple website for securely storing and sharing digital photos via the Internet.

From the earliest days, the aim was nothing less than to transform the way "personal memories" were cared for, shared and preserved.

Web Innovation

With financial - and moral - support from friends, families and early investors, dotPhoto.com was launched in May 2000 as one of the first online photo sharing sites to offer a complete and free solution for the digital photo enthusiast, including professional lab quality prints, enlargements and custom photo gifts delivered to your door.

As the small staff grew, so did Exclaim's reputation for innovation, providing one of the first sites to enable digital photographers to sound annotate their online photos. Other innovations followed quickly:

  • A turnkey ecommerce solution for pro photographers
  • Photo captioning
  • Guest commenting
  • Multiple upload methods including FTP and email
  • Video storage and sharing
  • The browser-based dotPhoto Show with movie-like special effects
  • Support of camera phone uploading from all major carriers
  • AJAX (Asynchronous JavaScript and XML) technology that enables viewers to "page" through their online albums without a browser refresh
  • Drag-and-drop ease in creating heirloom photo books

And, of course, more.

Boundless Wireless

Not content with photos showcased on the Internet and preserved in traditional prints, in 2003 Exclaim's management team launched Pictavision®, the first wireless application to enable viewing of online photo albums on a cell phone's color screen.

This "wireless photo wallet" quickly gained acceptance with major carriers and consumers, driving a large spike and continued growth in users.

Subsequently, Exclaim's growing expertise in wireless application development and state-of-the art infrastructure gave birth to a suite of mobile products under the Pictavision and MyAppstm brands.

To fuel the growth in both businesses, Exclaim accepted a venture capital investment in December 2003 from two leading firms, Edison Venture Fund and Sycamore Ventures, both with strong ties to local technology ventures.

Since then, Exclaim has become a sought-after content partner and developer of co-branded or private-labeled applications for such leading brands as CNET-Webshots and Verizon Wireless.

Exclaim's wireless applications are deployed in both BREW and Java environments, on 23 carriers, across more than 800 handset application combinations in more than ten countries, including Chile, Dominican Republic, India and Peru.

Convergence Today

Today Exclaim's best-in-breed infrastructure houses large volumes of photo, video and sound files. Along with this secure, redundant storage system, its web and database applications are at the heart of an extensible strategy to deliver today's end-to-end rich media experience on your wireless device, on the Web and at home.
